Speed Sensor Support for More Accurate Speed Data
GpxOverlay now automatically detects when your GPX file contains speed sensor data and gives you the option to use it instead of GPS-calculated speed. This is a significant improvement for cyclists and other athletes who use dedicated speed sensors.
Why Use Speed Sensor Data?
- More Accurate: Speed sensors provide more precise speed measurements compared to GPS-calculated speed.
- No Random Jumps: GPS speed data can sometimes spike or drop unexpectedly due to signal interference. Speed sensor data is smooth and consistent.
- Better for Indoor Activities: If you recorded data indoors, in tunnels, or in areas with poor GPS reception, speed sensor data will be much more reliable.
- Professional Results: Get cleaner, more professional-looking speed overlays without erratic speed changes.
How It Works
When you upload a GPX file that contains speed sensor data, GpxOverlay automatically detects it and displays a "Speed Data Source" option. You can then choose between:
- Use speed from sensor: Uses the data from your speed sensor (recommended when available)
- Calculate from GPS: Calculates speed from GPS position changes (default for files without sensor data)

This feature is especially useful for cycling videos where you want to showcase accurate speed data from your bike computer or cycling computer that's connected to a wheel speed sensor.
